Multi Factor Authentication

Multi Factor Authentication

Multi-factor authentication enhances your online password security by adding another layer of authentication in addition to just a complex password

It’s no longer enough to have just a password protecting your accounts, even if it is a very strong one! Our multi-factor authentication (MFA) solutions provide enhanced security to protect your accounts and data.

  • Compliance Ready: Ready for compliance and insurance requirements such as Cyber Essentials with our MFA tools.

What is Multi-Factor Authentication?

What if a thief knew your home address; and you only had a pass code on your front door – and they know the code? Multi-factor authentication (MFA) is that extra level of protection that would block their entry, even with the correct code. MFA for your online accounts works in the same way. Even if someone knows your password, they will not be able to gain access without the additional verification step provided by the MFA tool, which can come in various forms:

Easy Options

Receive a code via SMS, voice call, or push notification to an app on your trusted device, such as your mobile phone.

Biometrics

Make use of fingerprint scans or facial recognition for that extra level of protection.

Why you should use Multi Factor Authentication?

Password Theft

Passwords are not the best level of protection standalone - easily stolen, guessed, or hacked. What makes this worse is the fact that so many people reuse the same passwords across multiple accounts. If one provider is compromised and your data is leaked, hackers will often quite quickly gain access to your other accounts too.

Exposed Personal Details

Parts of your commonly used passwords are often easily available online - maiden names, children's names, birthdays and wedding anniversaries are all available in the public domain online and in social media.

Brute Forcing Passwords

Armed with huge computing power, cyber criminals can use this to create "brute force attacks" that attempt billions of password combinations in an incredibly short space of time. It doesn’t matter how complex your password is, in time, a brute force attempt can crack it.

What is the risk of not using MFA

Having just a password is just like a single lock and bolt to protect your home - easily broken or bypassed by someone who really wants to get in. Multi Factor Authentication (MFA) helps out here, providing extra mechanism of security and working as that second strong lock on your door. A few reasons not to rely on just a password are outlined below:

Brute Force Attacks

MFA means a second security mechanism to backup your password.

Data Breaches

MFA stops unwanted access, even if your password is known to attackers.

Phishing Scams

MFA provides the extra level of protection, meaning scammed passwords cannot be used without your permission.

Account Takeover

MFA is the obstacle in the path of someone trying to gain access to and takeover one or all of your accounts.
